Really Ukiah
I like to consider myself “Really Ukiah”. I’m not too left, not too right, somewhere in the middle. I was born and raised in Ukiah. Now I’m raising kids of my own in here. I feel like I’m a lot of thirty something’s in a small town.
We’re trying to do what’s right for our families and our community. We bring our reusable bags to the grocery store, we buy organic food, we teach our kids to be hard-working, loving, patient and kind. But we’re human.... sometimes we buy fast food on the way home from soccer because its cheap, easy and convenient (and the kids are “sttaarrvviinnggg mom”), sometimes we buy the shoes at the chain store because we can’t always afford the shoes at a local store, and sometimes we get mad and honk our horn at the teenager texting on their cell phone that blows past a line of stopped cars waiting for a pedestrian at a crosswalk.
For the most part though we’re trying to fit into a community where youth have been historically overlooked and trying to change that, to bridge the gap between young people and older people and show them how they can work together to make changes that will benefit everyone.
